Doha Debates: Extremism Study Results


Some of you may have seen the Doha Debates on March 3rd, 2008 on which Muslims debated extremism. As a follow up, BBC conducted a poll of countries in the GCC, Levant, and North Africa. The results are illuminating and eye opening. For instance, 56% Muslims in these countries define extremism as intolerance of others holding different religious views. The poll will take five minutes to review. Please feel free to forward this to others who may be interested.

A Mystical Journey- Musical Performance and More


A Mystical Journey - Sufi Music and other Expressions of Devotion from the Muslim World is a Golden Jubilee International Programme featuring artists from Algeria, Bosnia, Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Syria performing music from various Sufi and other esoteric traditions of Islam. A Mystical Journey seeks to express the rich diversity of devotional expressions in Islam reflecting different geographies, languages and traditions. Though different in form, these acts of devotion are common in their peaceful search for the divine and represent the pluralistic traditions and mystical unity among different communities of interpretation within the Muslim world.

This week young Muslim leaders from around the world gathered in Doha, the capitol of Qatar, for the Doha Debates. The purpose of the forum was to discuss the most important issues facing the Muslim community. Arsalan Iftikhar, a participant, explains his position questioning if Muslims are doing enough to combat terrorism.

New York's Empire State Building to light up in green for Eid!


This weekend, the color green will illuminate the Manhattan skyline. On the evenings of October 12th to 14th, the Empire State Building - located in the heart of New York City's most famed tourist district and recently named "America's Favorite Building" - will be lit in green to commemorate the Muslim holiday of Eid-ul-Fitr. This year, enjoy a green and happy Eid!


The Arts of Kashmir at Asia Society


From October 3 through January 6th, the Asia Society will be showing the Arts of Kashmir, a major international loan exhibition of objects of exemplary quality devoted to the rich artistic tradition of Kashmir. For centuries the Kashmir valley has been a burgeoning arts center and cultural magnet. Covering the fourth century to the twentieth century, this exhibition is the first ever to be devoted to the extraordinary arts of this highly lauded location.

Liberty Museum Holds New Exhibition: Islamic Science Rediscovered


The celebrated Liberty Science Center in New Jersey is currently featuring an exhibit whose aim is to "demonstrate that Muslim scholars excelled not only in theoretical studies but also in the practical application of science."
